FIFA Bans Samuel Eto’o for 6 Months

Football legend and President of the Cameroonian Football Association (FECAFOOT), Samuel Eto’o, has been handed a 6-month ban from attending Cameroon national team matches.

The ban, imposed by FIFA’s Disciplinary Committee, stems from breaches of articles 13 and 14 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code.

The incident occurred during the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup round-of-16 match between Brazil and Cameroon on September 11, 2024, in Bogotá, Colombia. Eto’o’s behavior was deemed offensive and in violation of fair play principles.

The ban prevents Eto’o from attending matches involving FECAFOOT teams, including men’s and women’s teams of all ages and categories. This includes international friendlies, qualifiers, and tournaments.

FECAFOOT has yet to release an official statement, but sources close to the association indicate that Eto’o will appeal the decision. As one of Africa’s most decorated footballers, Eto’o’s legacy has been marred by this controversy.

The ban raises questions about his leadership and conduct as FECAFOOT President.
